The Zionist newspaper Haaretz reported today, Thursday, that 21 Israeli soldiers committed suicide during 2024, including 14 cases since the beginning of the current year alone.
The newspaper stated that these figures reflect a worrying increase in suicide rates among members of the Israeli "army" since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, raising questions about the psychological pressures and challenges facing soldiers in light of the difficult security and living conditions.
Available data reveals a worrying increase in suicide cases among soldiers since the start of the war on Gaza. From October 7, 2023, through the end of the year, seven soldiers committed suicide, while 21 soldiers committed suicide in 2024, including at least 14 since the beginning of the current year.
The military establishment attributes this increase to the increase in the number of conscripts, particularly in the reserve forces, noting that a large percentage of the cases occurred during active service.
According to sources within the "Israeli Army," many of the soldiers who committed suicide were exposed to combat accidents that affected their mental health.
It should be noted that the "Israeli Army" figures do not include soldiers who ended their lives after completing their service and removing their military uniforms.
According to the newspaper, at least 11 civilians have committed suicide since the beginning of the war. Their psychological problems are believed to be due to their military experiences, whether in this war or in previous wars.
