The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Tuesday the recording of 45 cases of acute flaccid paralysis during June and July of 2025, marking an unprecedented increase in this type of case, amid the deteriorating health conditions in the Strip.
The Ministry explained that the lack of the ability to conduct accurate medical diagnoses has prevented a definitive determination of the nature of these cases, suggesting they are likely to be either polio or Guillain-Barré Syndrome, both of which pose a serious threat to the health of those infected, especially children.
The Ministry attributed this increase in cases to the deterioration of the general health environment in Gaza, resulting from water pollution, the collapse of sewage networks, and the accumulation of waste, in addition to the spread of infectious diseases and malnutrition, which has led to weakened immunity among the population, especially children.
In light of this situation, the Ministry of Health launched an urgent humanitarian appeal calling on the international community and health and humanitarian institutions to intervene immediately to stop the aggression, save the collapsed health system, and work to improve the living and health conditions of the residents of the besieged Gaza Strip.
