Former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett has warned that Israel’s standing in the United States “has never been worse,” blaming Benjamin Netanyahu for turning the country into a “a leper state.”

Bennett wrote on his X account on Tuesday that “although part of the Trump administration still sympathizes with Israel, first and foremost thanks to President Trump himself, many in the right-wing environment in the US, including the MAGA movement, are distancing themselves from Israel.”

“Even those who were our friends are having a hard time defending Israel,” Bennett said.

He argued that Israel, which has always enjoyed the staunch support of Americans, is losing its standing due to the starvation campaign unleashed by Israel in Gaza.

"The starvation campaign in Gaza has gained enormous traction. Among most of the American public and various influencers, it is now accepted almost as fact...Israel is seen more as a burden on the US and Americans.”

Bennett stated that the military and political actions of Netanyahu and his cabinet have resulted in increasing "antisemitism" across the US, and many on both the radical left and right blame Jews for America’s troubles.

A recent Gallup poll indicates that approximately 60% of US adults now disapprove of the Israeli military’s genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip.

He also blamed Israel’s radical ministers like Amichai Eliyahu, Amichai Chikli, and Bezalel Smotrich for their comments about occupying Gaza and expanding illegal settlements in the West Bank. He added that these comments will result in legal persecution of Israeli soldiers in other countries.

“Do you really think that what you say in interviews in Israel isn’t being heard abroad?! Don’t you care that you will lead to the prosecution of our soldiers?”

He also accused Netanyahu and his cabinet of corruption and said that they have been using the war in Gaza as a propaganda tool to stay in power.

"If Netanyahu’s propaganda machine fought Israel’s external enemies with even a tenth of the talent, speed, and devotion that it uses against his internal political rivals, our situation would be incredible," the former Israeli prime minister said.

According to a recent Gallup poll, 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of the Israeli regime’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.

International pressure on the Israeli regime is also mounting as its allies in Europe have decided to recognize the state of Palestine.

Since Israel began its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, the regime has killed 61,020 Palestinians and wounded 150,671, most of them women and children.
