Yemen held a solemn funeral procession on Monday for the martyrs of the Sanaa government who lost their lives in the treacherous and cowardly Israeli aggression that targeted them last Thursday in the capital, Sanaa.

The procession was led by a number of senior officials, including Member of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, Acting Prime Minister of the Sanaa government Al-Allamah Mohammed Muftah, Mufti of Yemen Al-Allamah Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, and Secretary-General of the Supreme Political Council Dr. Yasser Al-Hawri.

Also in attendance were Secretary-General of the Presidency Hassan Sharaf al-Din, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Daifallah Rassam, along with numerous members of the Parliament and Shura Council, Yemeni sheikhs, civil, military, and security leaders, and social figures.

The funeral ceremony began in Al-Sabeen Square in the capital, where the funeral prayer was performed on the flag-draped bodies of the martyrs. The procession, led by an honor guard, then proceeded to the Martyr President Saleh Al-Sammad Cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest.

National Mourning and Religious Ceremonies

The ceremonies began at Al-Sabeen Square, with prayers held at the Al-Sha'ab Mosque and a eulogy delivered by Yemen’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Shamsuddin Sharafuddin. Crowds from across the country, including Yemen’s northern and southern governorates, converged on the capital from early morning. Official delegations attended, alongside symbolic units from the Military Academy, Air Force College, Naval College, and contingents of the Central Security Forces and Rapid Intervention Units.

Comprehensive List of Martyrs

The list of martyrs includes ministers of Information, Foreign Affairs, Youth and Sports, Electricity and Energy, Social Affairs, Justice and Human Rights, Culture, Tourism, and Agriculture, as well as the Prime Minister’s office director. Their deaths underscore Yemen’s national unity, spanning from Sa’adah in the north to Abyan in the south.

Political and National Significance

Deputy Minister of Information Muhammad Mansour told Al-Masirah: “These martyrs represent the full spectrum of Yemenis. Their sacrifices send a powerful message to all Yemenis, particularly in the southern governorates, that honor, dignity, and the nation’s stance today emanate from Sana’a, not from Abu Dhabi or Riyadh.”

He emphasized that these sacrifices reaffirm Yemenis’ unity in defending the Palestinian cause and confronting the US-Israeli agenda in the region. “These are messages in blood—from Sana’a to Gaza,” Mansour said.

Immediate Response and Ongoing Resistance

Mansour also highlighted that President Mahdi Al-Mashat affirmed that “revenge will not wait.” Yemen’s Armed Forces launched an immediate retaliatory strike, targeting an Israeli oil tanker in the northern Red Sea, signaling that further punitive operations are forthcoming.

“These past two years have been marked by sacred sacrifices in defense of the Palestinian cause,” Mansour added. “From Raymah and Sa’adah to Abyan and Hadhramaut, this unified geography in blood is the strongest rebuttal to any attempts to sow division and the clearest expression of one national identity against a single enemy.”

Call for National Unity and Continuation of Struggle

The Deputy Minister concluded by calling on all Yemenis to join the national liberation movement led by Sana’a. “The legacy of Ahmed Al-Rahwi and his colleagues, who fell while serving the people under siege and aggression, is a call to every free Yemeni to continue the path of national struggle and resistance,” he said.

On August 28, 2025, Israeli forces carried out an airstrike in Sana’a that killed Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi and several government ministers. The attack targeted a government workshop and was widely condemned by Yemeni officials, resistance groups, and international observers as a violation of international law and a deliberate strike against civilians.

Yemen’s leadership and Armed Forces responded swiftly, reinforcing their military capabilities and escalating operations against Israeli targets in the Red Sea. The aggression has intensified national unity in Yemen and strengthened its political and popular commitment to supporting Palestine, amid ongoing Israeli-US aggression in the region.
