Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the US military aggression against Venezuela, warning of its repercussions on the international order as a whole and cautioning that it would further accelerate the erosion and collapse of the United Nations system.
In a statement posted on its X account, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the US military attack on an independent state and UN member constitutes a serious violation of regional and international peace and security.
The statement added that the American aggression represents a blatant example of an “act of aggression that must be unequivocally and immediately condemned by the United Nations and by all states committed to the rule of law and to international peace and security.”
It stressed the international and UN responsibility to immediately halt the illegal US aggression against Venezuela, underscoring the need to take all necessary measures to hold accountable those who planned and carried out the crimes committed during the military assault.
Earlier on Saturday, powerful explosions rocked central Caracas, accompanied by warplanes flying overhead and thick plumes of smoke rising following US bombardment.
Earlier the same day, US President Donald Trump announced the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and their removal from the country.
In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, Trump claimed: “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, and US law enforcement authorities participated in the operation.”
