Israeli occupation forces Wednesday admitted heavy casualties amid escalating confrontations between the Israeli occupation forces and the Islamic Resistance-Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military indicated that around 48 Israeli soldiers were wounded over a 24-hour period, alongside reports of fatalities among members of the elite Nahal Brigade during the fighting.
This comes in addition to the earlier admission by the Israeli army that 10 of its officers and soldiers have been killed since the start of the war on Iran and Lebanon, and that 309 others have been injured, including 23 whose wounds were described as serious.
Israeli injuries rise to 6,638 amid Iran, Hezbollah strikes
The Israeli occupation’s Health Ministry announced that 118 injuries were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, amid the ongoing regional escalation kick-started by the US and the Israeli regime.
According to the ministry, the total number of injuries recorded in Israeli hospitals since the launch of Operation Roar of the Lion, i.e., the US-Israeli aggression on Iran, on February 28, has reached 6,638 cases as of midnight on March 31.
The ministry also reported that the cumulative number of injuries admitted to Israeli hospitals since October 7, 2023, has risen to 82,956.
Israeli casualties on the rise
The Israeli military command said that four troops were killed, including an officer, and three others were injured, one seriously, during ongoing confrontations with the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon - Hezbollah.
Israeli media reported that permission had been granted to publish details of the incident on Monday evening, confirming that among the dead were a captain and two sergeants, while information regarding the fourth soldier has yet to be released. The same incident left one soldier seriously wounded, in addition to two others, including a reservist.
According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, the number of Israeli soldiers killed in southern Lebanon since the start of the war has risen to 10.
The troops served in the Nahal Brigade's Reconnaissance Unit and were ambushed by Hezbollah fighters at an undisclosed location in southern Lebanon. The exchange killed the troops and injured others, while Israeli aircraft, tanks, and artillery launched intense cover fire for the withdrawing forces.
Resistance tactics strain Israeli operations
Israeli assessments further underscored the impact of Hezbollah’s evolving tactics, noting that sustained rocket fire targeting Israeli occupation forces is complicating military operations and contributing to rising losses. Security sources cited a state of unease within Israeli military circles regarding the Resistance’s battlefield methods and the emergence of new tactics that have proven difficult to counter.
They also admitted that confronting Hezbollah in a ground engagement remains a complex and demanding task, with the group maintaining the ability to maneuver, strike, and impose high costs on advancing Israeli units.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon continues to confront the Israeli aggression in defense of Lebanon and its people, carrying out operations targeting Israeli military positions and staging ambushes against advancing forces across the southern front.
As in previous confrontations, the Israeli occupation has relied on a policy of opacity regarding its battlefield losses, suggesting that officially acknowledged figures may not fully reflect the scale of human and material losses sustained during the ongoing fighting
