US Congressman Don Burr described President Donald Trump's threats as "increasingly insane" on Tuesday, saying that the president doesn't know how to end his "disastrous war," and therefore resorts to such threats.

Burr addressed his fellow Republicans, urging them to "return to Washington and vote for a War Powers Resolution to stop this madness."

For his part, Congressman Jim McGovern said that Trump is "mentally unstable, sick, and unfit to lead."

Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari, in turn, asserted that the US president is "escalating a destructive and illegal war, threatening to commit serious war crimes."

Ansari accused Secretary of Defense Pete Higseth of "complicity," stating that she had previously called for invoking the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove him from office. It is worth noting that Higseth is leading a purge and dismissal of "senior generals and top officers in the US military," at a time when the public needs clarification amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, according to The Atlantic magazine.

This comes after American experts in international law condemned Trump's threats to strike Iranian infrastructure, pointing to "potential violations" of international humanitarian law.

Trump had threatened to target civilian infrastructure in Iran, an act described by Iran's mission to the United Nations as a "war crime," urging the international community to act before it is too late.
