The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine stated on Thursday that “this year’s Palestinian Prisoners’ Day comes at a time when the crimes of the Zionist enemy against the prisoners of our people, both men and women, have reached an unprecedented peak not seen since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967.”

In a statement marking the occasion, the Front said that “the war of starvation, abuse, medical neglect, and isolation has led to the deaths of approximately 90 prisoners since October 7.” It added that this “fascist policy has intensified over the past two and a half years during the ongoing war of genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip.” The statement further noted that the Israeli settlement system has accompanied this escalation by legalizing the killing of freedom fighters through what it described as a “Prisoners’ Execution Law.” According to the Front, this reflects the inability of the occupying power to halt Palestinian resistance, while simultaneously exposing its fascism and brutality in dealing with prisoners through crimes rarely paralleled in the treatment of national liberation prisoners during the twentieth century.

The statement continued that “the rampant Zionist violence and terrorism against more than 9,600 Palestinian prisoners, including 84 women and 350 children, violates international law and the Geneva Conventions.” It described these practices as an extension of a broader war of genocide against the Palestinian people, adding that such acts are carried out with “extreme sadism in full view of a largely silent world.” The Front criticized the timid condemnations from the international community, which have been easily ignored by the Zionist authorities. It further asserted that the Zionist "Knesset" has crowned these policies with what many international human rights organizations name a “fascist and racist law” permitting the execution of prisoners, reflecting a growing spirit of revenge within “the most fascist government since the establishment of the occupation.”

The Democratic Front emphasized that "Israeli" authorities “will not achieve their objectives through this fascist law or through the various crimes committed against our prisoners,” including attempts to instill fear among Palestinians and deter resistance. It also rejected efforts to “criminalize resistance to occupation” aimed at undermining the Palestinian national project, which is gaining increasing international support. Continued abuses against prisoners are contributing to the Zionist entity's growing international isolation and condemnation.

The Front concluded by calling on “the masses of our people at home, in the diaspora, and in refugee communities to intensify popular mobilization in support of the prisoners’ cause,” as it is a central component of the Palestinian issue under the slogan “No freedom for our people without the freedom of its prisoners.” It also urged the International Committee of the Red Cross to pressure Zionist authorities to resume prison visits.

Finally, the statement called on “all countries, international human rights institutions, and courts that have condemned Israeli measures against Palestinian prisoners to translate their positions into concrete punitive actions against the occupying entity,” particularly in response to the execution law, with the aim of forcing its repeal.
