The scheduled travel for Gaza patients today, Sunday, has been cancelled due to the failure to obtain the necessary security clearances from the Israeli occupation authority (IOA), according to the health ministry in the war-ravaged territory.
In a statement, the health ministry explained that the main reason for the delays in the travel of patients for medical treatment is the limited number of individuals permitted to travel, alongside the lengthy waiting periods for security clearances, which can drag on for months.
The health ministry said that in recent weeks, it had submitted travel requests for about 70 urgent life-saving cases, but only five of them received permits to leave Gaza.
The ministry appealed to international bodies and UN organizations to intervene urgently to increase departures of patients, reduce waiting times, and expedite travel procedures for life-saving cases.
There are about 20,000 patients in Gaza who need to travel to receive medical treatment abroad, the ministry noted.
