A US airstrike that destroyed a residential building on Iran’s Qeshm Island was carried out using a 907-kilogram (2,000-pound) Mark-84 aerial bomb, according to an analysis cited by The New York Times.

The analysis examined videos, photographs, and satellite imagery from the attack, concluding that the size of the crater and fragments recovered from the site were consistent with the use of one of the largest conventional bombs in the US military arsenal.

Iranian media previously reported, citing local authorities, that the strike led to the martyrdom of a man, his wife, and their two-year-old child, while two other children were found alive beneath the rubble.
The report said the scale of the munition raised questions over the choice of weapon and the nature of the intended target.
