A senior US official cited by Israeli Channel 12 has admitted that Washington was caught off guard by the level of escalation Iran was willing to reach, describing the Iranians as having been "extremely aggressive in their attacks over the past few days."

The official told the Israeli channel that Iran carried out additional retaliatory strikes following a "surprise missile attack on a US base in Jordan" on Wednesday. Channel 12 further reported that despite US President Donald Trump's threat to bomb Iran in response to "any further attack," Tehran went ahead regardless and targeted ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

All fronts failed to produce results
The admission comes as Israeli media have grown increasingly candid about the limits of military power in the region. The Hebrew news site Zman Yisrael acknowledged that the Israeli regime has failed to achieve a decisive victory in any of its ongoing wars, even as the Israeli public continues to expect and demand "total victory".

The outlet conceded that none of the fronts "Israel" has opened has produced a decisive outcome.

Zman Yisrael further said that talk of another round of confrontation with Iran is "futile" and argued that past wars can no longer serve as a model for achieving decisive victories today. The site also pointed to the fact that even the United States, "the world's leading superpower," has not achieved a clear-cut military victory since World War II.
