Satellite imagery showed fires breaking out at eight locations in the Buqayq area on Wednesday, coinciding with large-scale fires reported in Riyadh.
The satellite images also showed a thick plume of smoke rising from an oil facility operated by Saudi Aramco in Buqayq after the site was targeted.
Beam Tracker, an open-source military monitoring platform, published satellite images showing a massive plume of smoke billowing from the facility.
It is worth noting that Buqayq is one of the world’s most prominent oil facilities. It houses the largest crude oil processing plant, receives crude from the Ghawar oil field before it is pumped to export terminals on both the eastern and western coasts, and processes approximately 70 percent of Saudi Aramco’s production.
