Recent data published by the British newspaper The Independent revealed a rise in the costs of gasoline, diesel, and natural gas in the United States of America compared to 2025, amid an increase in monthly spending on fuel and energy.

According to national averages released on Monday, motorists filling their tanks with unleaded gasoline are currently spending an average of an additional $66.86 per month compared to October 2025.

Data compiled by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the independent automotive marketplace "Electric Choice" showed that diesel drivers are spending an average of an additional $139.32 per month compared to last year.

Regarding natural gas, the latest price data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), according to The Independent, showed a price increase of $1.01 per thousand cubic feet year-on-year last July, equivalent to approximately $44 per month based on average monthly household consumption.

Energy Innovation, a nonpartisan energy and climate policy think tank, stated in an analysis released last week that "energy prices continue to rise, further exacerbating the affordability crisis facing Americans."

In a related context, Reuters reported on October 1 that the administration of US President Donald Trump urged European nations to release their emergency diesel stockpiles, amid fuel prices surging to record or near-record levels in several markets, including Europe.
