The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources strongly condemned the targeting by Saudi enemy aircraft of fishermen in the coastal district of Dhubab, Taiz Governorate, and a citizen’s farm in Al-Munirah District, Hodeidah Governorate, which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of fishermen and the death of cattle.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture considered the targeting of fishermen while carrying out their activities in coastal waters, as well as pursuing and targeting them again as they attempted to escape, a crime against civilians and workers in the fisheries sector and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of fishermen and their sources of livelihood.

The statement refuted the claims made by the aggression’s spokesperson regarding the use of traditional boats to smuggle weapons, missiles, and military equipment into Yemen, affirming that such allegations do not justify targeting civilian fishermen and their boats.

It clarified that the targeted boats were engaged in fishing activities in coastal waters, and that pursuing and targeting fishermen as they attempted to escape constitutes a direct attack on civilians and workers in the fisheries sector.

The statement pointed out that targeting farms, facilities, and livestock production constitutes a direct assault on the agricultural sector, the foundations of food security, and citizens’ livelihoods, and comes within the context of the systematic targeting of national productive sectors.

The Ministry of Agriculture affirmed that the continued targeting of farmers, fishermen, their property, and their sources of production would not deter the Yemeni people from continuing to work and produce, remaining committed to their land, sea, and sources of livelihood, and strengthening the resilience of the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

It held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for these crimes and the resulting human, material, economic, and environmental damage, calling on the international community and relevant organizations and bodies to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the ongoing targeting of civilians and workers in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The Ministry of Agriculture reiterated its commitment to continuing its efforts to protect and develop the agricultural and fisheries sectors and strengthen local production, in a manner that contributes to achieving food security and mitigating the repercussions of the brutal aggression and siege on citizens’ lives and livelihoods.
