The Intisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights condemned the Saudi enemy’s targeting of housing for workers at a cement factory in Hamdan District, Sana’a Governorate, and a home in the Asir area of the capital, Sana’a. The attacks resulted in martyrs and injuries, including among women and children.
In a statement, the organization explained that the two crimes constitute serious violations of the rights to life and security, exposing the scale of the dangers faced by civilians inside their homes, which are supposed to provide a safe refuge for them and their families.
The statement affirmed that targeting civilian facilities and placing their workers and surrounding areas at risk raises serious concerns about compliance with the rules governing the protection of civilians and civilian objects.
It noted that protecting civilians’ lives and property is neither optional nor a favor, but a legal obligation imposed by international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The statement called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, take serious action to protect civilians in Yemen, put an end to attacks that endanger their lives, and ensure respect for the rules of international humanitarian law.
The organization stressed that civilians’ lives are not merely numbers in news reports. Behind every martyr is a family that has lost its support, and behind every injured person are pain and suffering that demand redress. It emphasized that protecting human beings and their rights to life and security must remain at the forefront of all human rights and humanitarian action.
