Statement by the Leader Al-Sayyid Abdul Malik Badruddin Al-Houthi on the Occasion of the Blessed Month of Ramadan 1447 A.H.
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Allah (Glory be to Him) says, {'O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you (as it was for those before you) so that you may become mindful of Allah'}. This is the word of truth from Almighty Allah, the Most High.
On the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan, I extend my warmest congratulations to our dear Muslim Yemeni people—including their steadfast mujahidin on the frontlines, the official institutions, and the revered scholars—and to the entire Muslim Ummah. I ask Allah to grant us success in fasting this month, standing in prayer during its nights, and performing good deeds. May Allah also grant us success in making the most of its blessings, in attaining piety, and in being guided by His blessed light—the Holy Quran. We further ask Him to enable us to seize the night of Qadr and deliver us from the Fire.
The blessed month of Ramadan is a tremendous gift of divine mercy. In this month, Allah opens the doors of His mercy, grace, and abundant goodness in ways that distinguish it above all other months. It is the month in which the blessed Quran was revealed, and it is a great season for multiplying reward, strengthening faith, and drawing closer to Allah, the Exalted. Blessed are those who seize this opportunity, and congratulations to those whom Allah enables to attain these blessings.
As Muslims, we are in great need of consciously benefiting from the blessed month of Ramadan, drawing from its spiritual gifts to purify our souls and cleanse our hearts, as well as from its Quranic light for guidance, insight, and awareness. We need to benefit from this month so that we may attain Allah's mercy, draw closer to Him, and receive the goodness of this world and the Hereafter. This also has to do with striving to reform our souls so that our deeds may be accepted as good deeds, thereby leading to a better reality. Moreover, we need to acquire its essential gains in willpower, patience, and spiritual energy, which will help us fulfil our sacred responsibilities in upholding equity, striving in the way of Allah, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and working to present the Islamic civilisational model of stewardship in accordance with the noble teachings of Allah and His blessed light. Therefore, we must seize the opportunity of this blessed month and take care not to waste its time, for it is precious and important.
The dangers and challenges facing our Muslim Ummah—along with the schemes of the arrogant dark forces of evil and tyranny led by America and Israel and the suffering endured by our oppressed peoples, especially the Palestinian people—should serve as a compelling motivation for this Ummah to return to Allah. It should take the necessary steps to attain His support and assistance, seek guidance from His light and teachings, and sincerely turn to Him. This is essential for the Ummah to receive His mercy and support and to have Him on its side. Indeed, Allah is with those who are mindful of Him.
The blessed month of Ramadan is among the most important seasons for achieving a major shift if the Ummah seizes it, allowing the Ummah to create a difference in its overall reality. During this month, it is important to care for the poor and the needy, seeking closeness to Allah by being generous to them, as He said, {'And do good, for Allah certainly loves the good-doers'}. It is likewise important to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and social solidarity, maintain ties of kinship, and cooperate in righteousness and piety. A person should beware of the footsteps of Satan, bad companions, places of distraction and heedlessness, and the squandering of the blessed nights of this noble month through indulgence in TV series, games, and idle entertainment—for that leads only to loss and regret. Rather, due care should be given to reciting the Holy Quran, remembering Allah more frequently, and adhering to piety, by which good deeds are accepted: Allah (the Almighty) says, {'Allah only accepts from those who maintain piety'}.
We ask Allah (Glory be to Him) to grant us success in seeking what pleases Him. O Allah! Have mercy on our virtuous martyrs, heal the wounded among us, and grant us victory. You are the Hearer of Prayer!
Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
Your brother, Abdul Malik Badruddin Al-Houthi
