The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office warned, on Saturday, of a rise in the number of sick detainees in Israeli occupation prisons and the spread of infectious diseases during the winter.
In a statement, the Prisoners’ Media Office stressed that Palestinian inmates are facing dire conditions as winter sets in, due to the Israeli occupation’s refusal to allow the entry of blankets and winter clothing.
It explained that the occupation permits each prisoner only one blanket and one set of clothing, confiscating anything beyond that.
The office noted that all local and international attempts to provide the minimum winter necessities for the prisoners have been rejected by the occupation.
It added that winter illnesses are turning into chronic conditions, particularly respiratory and chest-related diseases, pointing out that the Israeli occupation does not provide medication or treatment, leaving prisoners’ bodies weakened and vulnerable to sickness.
