US President Donald Trump lashed out at European allies who refused to join the US-Israeli war on Iran, suggesting they should "go take" oil from the Strait of Hormuz themselves after claiming the US did "the hard part" of "decapitating" the country.

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump directed his comments at countries struggling with fuel shortages due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, specifically singling out the United Kingdom.

"All of those countries that can't get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you," Trump wrote.

"Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT."

Trump mocked allies for relying on American military protection while refusing to contribute to the war effort. "You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us," he said.

"Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!"

A war without allies

Trump's outburst reflects growing frustration with European allies who have refused to join the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Several NATO members have declined to send naval forces to the region or allow the US to use their military bases as launch points for strikes. The United Kingdom, while allowing US operations from RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia, has stopped short of direct military participation. France reportedly gave a "no" to joining a US-led coalition to patrol the Strait of Hormuz. Switzerland has halted weapons exports to the US for the duration of the conflict, citing neutrality.

Spain and Italy have both refused to allow the US military to use bases on their territory for its war efforts. Trump's suggestion that allies "just take" control of the Strait of Hormuz by force ignores the military reality that the waterway remains firmly under Iranian control. Iran has made clear that non-hostile vessels may transit if they coordinate with Tehran, while ships linked to the US and "Israel" remain blocked. The president's call for European nations to seize the strait would likely provoke a direct military confrontation with Iran, an escalation that even Washington's closest allies have shown no appetite for.

As the war enters its fifth week, Trump's Truth Social post lays bare a central contradiction of his strategy: a US president demanding allies join a war they never signed up for, while simultaneously declaring the war all but won and suggesting he is ready to abandon the very alliances America spent decades building.
