Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday welcomed Russia’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm in the region, praising the strength of relations between the two countries.

His remarks came following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of an intensive diplomatic tour conducted by the Iranian minister that included visits to Pakistan, Oman, and most recently Russia.

Araghchi said that “recent events have demonstrated the depth of the Russian–Iranian partnership,” expressing satisfaction with ongoing high-level engagement with Moscow amid major regional developments.

He announced that Russia has offered to mediate in efforts to help restore calm in the region with the ongoing US–Israeli aggression against Iran.

Araghchi, who met Putin on Monday, described the meeting, which lasted more than an hour and a half, as “very good,” stating that all issues were discussed in detail, including bilateral relations and regional matters.

For his part, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s determination to strengthen strategic relations with Tehran, revealing that he had received a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, last week. He conveyed his “sincere gratitude” for the message and extended his best wishes for health, well-being, and success.

Putin added that Russia “will do everything in its power to serve the interests of Iran and other countries in the region in order to achieve peace in the Middle East as quickly as possible.”
