In a systematic assault and a clear violation of the sanctity of the dead, Zionist settlers on Friday forced a Palestinian family from the village of al-Asaasa, south of Jenin, to exhume the body of their elderly father and transfer it to another cemetery in the town of Fandqumiya shortly after he had been buried in a cemetery located near the settlement of "Shavei Shomron" in the northern West Bank.

Residents of the village had earlier held funeral prayers for 80-year-old Hussein Mohammad Khalil Asasa and buried him in a cemetery belonging to the Bedouin community in the area.

However, following the burial ceremony, Zionist settlers, accompanied and protected by Zionist soldiers, arrived at the site carrying machinery and excavation equipment. They began attempting to dig up the grave  under the guise of it being located near the settlement, leading to heightened tensions in the area.

The Zionist "Public Broadcasting Corporation" reported that the "Israeli" army acknowledged that the incident had taken place near the settlement of "Shavei Shomron."

Local witnesses stated that the cemetery is situated approximately 50 meters from the settlement, which was built on Palestinian land. They stressed that the cemetery has been in use for many years, including during the period when settlers were present in the area before the Zionist entity’s 2005 withdrawal.
