The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that, since the beginning of this year, approximately 112 Palestinian children have been admitted to hospitals in the Gaza Strip every day for treatment for malnutrition, due to the stifling Israeli blockade.

In a press statement, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that Gaza, which has been subjected to intense Israeli attacks and a stifling blockade, has "passed the point of catastrophe".

He added that only 17 of the Strip's 36 hospitals are partially functioning and noted that there are no hospitals in either northern Gaza or Rafah in the south.

He also mentioned that 500 people had been killed while trying to obtain food at humanitarian aid distribution points run by the United States and Israel, excluding the United Nations.

Ghebreyesus stated that the WHO had 'very limited' access to Gaza this week for the first time since 2 March.
