According to "Navy Lookout," a platform specializing in news and analysis related to the operations, procurement, and future of the Royal Navy, the UK has been steadily decommissioning its warships since 2022 — with a total of 15 vessels, including frigates, submarines, landing ships, and minehunters, taken out of service in exchange for only a handful of new units.

The site noted that these measures have intensified over the past two years, strongly suggesting that developments in Yemen have effectively neutralized the Royal Navy’s operational capacity — mirroring the blow suffered by equivalent American forces that once dominated the region.

It further emphasized that "the Royal Navy is suffering from severe capability shortages and widespread fatigue across all aspects of its force."

The outlet added that the decline in capabilities has resulted in an almost complete absence of British naval presence in the Middle East, rendering the UK unable to support operations in the Red Sea.

In the latest development, the EU naval mission confirmed that the Italian frigate Caio Duilio has withdrawn from the area of operations under the European Union Naval Force.
