Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently visited the UAE to push Abu Dhabi to resume its involvement in the Saudi war on Yemen, in exchange for restoring some of its regional roles, reliable diplomatic sources told Al Mayadeen.
The sources said Netanyahu sought to encourage the UAE to provide Saudi Arabia with effective security and intelligence support as part of renewed coordination over Yemen.
According to the sources, Netanyahu conveyed his requests during his meeting with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, which was also attended by UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed.
Netanyahu seeks renewed UAE role in Yemen war
The diplomatic sources said Netanyahu asked Abu Dhabi to provide operational and field support to Saudi Arabia in Yemen.
In return, the sources said, the proposed arrangement would involve Saudi recognition of UAE influence in southern Yemen, alongside the restoration of some of Abu Dhabi’s regional roles.
The sources added that the discussions centered on securing greater UAE involvement in support of Saudi operations in Yemen.
The sources told Al Mayadeen that Mansour bin Zayed’s visit to Riyadh focused on delivering a message from Netanyahu to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman concerning Yemen and regional cooperation.
According to the sources, the message centered on coordination over Yemen as preparations were made for a broad aggression against the country.
Netanyahu met UAE president in Abu Dhabi on Sunday
Israeli Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spent the day in the UAE and met with President Mohammed bin Zayed, while his office has declined to discuss the reported visit.
Netanyahu traveled to Abu Dhabi on Sunday and met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing two sources familiar with the visit.
According to the channel, Netanyahu flew to the UAE on a private aircraft in the morning and remained there throughout the day. His office has declined to provide details about his meetings in Abu Dhabi.
CENTCOM hosts secret Israeli-Arab military meeting
Last week, senior military commanders from the United States, the Israeli occupation, and several Arab states reportedly held a secret meeting in Germany to discuss the ongoing war on Iran and deepen regional military coordination, including possible Israeli support for Saudi operations against Yemen, Axios reported earlier in September.
Citing two Israeli officials, the outlet said the gathering was organized by US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper and attended by the military chiefs of staff of the Israeli occupation, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt.
The meeting was not publicly announced by any of the participating governments and marked the first such gathering since the United States and "Israel" launched their war on Iran more than six months ago.
While similar meetings have taken place in previous years, the latest gathering was particularly notable for bringing together the Israeli military chief with senior commanders from Arab countries that do not maintain formal diplomatic relations with the occupation.
