The National Human Rights Commission has condemned, in the strongest and most emphatic terms of denunciation and condemnation, the horrific and brutal crime committed by the Saudi enemy’s aircraft in targeting a passenger bus in Taiz Governorate.
In a statement issued by the Commission, it explained that the Saudi enemy’s aircraft targeted a passenger bus in Taiz with two direct airstrikes on the main road linking the Sherjab area and the city of Al-Turbah, resulting in martyrs and injuries in a dangerous criminal escalation.
The Commission considered the targeting of the passenger bus a fully constituted war crime and a crime of premeditated and deliberate murder, carried out with prior intent and lying in wait. It explained that bombing a civilian bus carrying peaceful citizens on a public road constitutes a direct and deliberate targeting of civilians, a war crime prohibited under Article 51 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.
The statement affirmed that targeting the road linking Sherjab and Al-Turbah, a vital lifeline for thousands of citizens, falls within a systematic policy aimed at isolating areas of Taiz, severing their connections, and preventing the movement of civilians, patients, and travelers.
The Human Rights Commission pointed out that the crime comes only hours after residential neighborhoods in Yarim, telecommunications networks, and Hodeidah Airport were targeted. This, confirms that the Saudi enemy has moved from targeting infrastructure to directly targeting citizens’ buses on public roads.
The Commission held the Saudi regime fully legally responsible for this massacre, calling on the United Nations and the UN Special Envoy to issue an immediate and unequivocal condemnation of the massacre, rather than settling for statements expressing concern.
It also called on the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to document the crime of targeting the citizens’ bus on the Sherjab–Al-Turbah route as an extrajudicial killing.
