The National Human Rights Commission condemned the latest crimes committed by Saudi enemy aircraft in the capital, Sana’a, which directly and deliberately targeted purely civilian and economic facilities.

In a statement, the Commission explained that Saudi enemy aircraft carried out brutal airstrikes targeting the Sama Al-Nahda factory for building materials and electrical supplies in the Al-Jimnah area north of Sana’a, as well as a foam factory in the Shamlan area west of the capital.

The statement affirmed that these attacks constitute a fully-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, as they targeted civilian economic facilities employing hundreds of workers and civilian staff, with no military use. It added that targeting these facilities constitutes a grave violation of Article 52 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits attacks on civilian objects.

It noted that targeting the two factories clearly reveals that the Saudi enemy is targeting nothing but the livelihoods and resources of the Yemeni people, seeking to destroy what remains of the country’s economic infrastructure, deepen citizens’ suffering, and put hundreds of workers out of work—a policy of collective punishment prohibited under international law.

The statement pointed out that bombing civilian facilities in densely populated residential neighborhoods in Shamlan and Al-Jimnah, north and west of the capital, constitutes deliberate terrorization of civilians and places their lives at risk.

It added that this dangerous escalation against the capital, Sana’a, following crimes in Taiz, Ibb, Raymah, Al-Bayda, and Al-Hudaydah, confirms that the Saudi enemy has launched a comprehensive aggression against every aspect of life in Yemen.

The Commission held the Saudi regime fully legally and criminally responsible for these crimes. It called on the United Nations and the UN Special Envoy to issue a clear condemnation of the targeting of civilian factories in Sana’a, and urged the International Labour Organization to condemn attacks on factories employing civilian workers.
