Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has slammed certain European countries for supporting the Israeli regime and failing to condemn Israeli-American aggression against Iran, urging them to take “responsible” action over Israeli crimes in West Asia.
Araghchi made these remarks in a phone call with his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski, on Thursday.
“The unconditional support of some European countries and the US for the Israeli regime during the genocide in occupied Palestine, and subsequently its aggressions against Lebanon and Syria, has been one of the main factors behind the continuation of this regime’s aggression,” he stated.
The top diplomat noted that Israel’s 12-day war against Iran was “a clear example of an act of aggression under Article 39 of the United Nations Charter, and a blatant violation of Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter,” stressing that “the international community has a duty to respond to this grave crime.”
He added that the UN Security Council should also condemn this aggression and “take decisive action to hold the aggressor accountable."
He also referred to the Israeli and American strikes that targeted peaceful nuclear facilities in Iran in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.
The minister said the attacks dealt a blow to the rule of law, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime, holding the US, Israel and their supporters responsible for the “serious consequences” of this criminal act.
In the early hours of June 13, the Israeli regime launched an all-out aggression on Iranian soil by targeting various military and nuclear sites, claiming the lives of dozens of top military commanders and nuclear scientists as well as ordinary civilians.
Iran did not negotiate truce; ready to respond decisively to any Israeli breach: FM
On June 22, the United States joined the Israeli regime in the assault and bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
A day later, Iran launched a wave of missiles at al-Udeid air base in Qatar—the largest American military base in West Asia—in retaliation for the aggression.
As the Iranian armed forces pounded Israel and its military and industrial infrastructure, using many new-generation missiles that precisely hit the designated targets, the embattled regime was forced to unilaterally declare a truce deal on June 24.
Araghchi noted that Iran’s armed forces have demonstrated their strength in defending the country against aggression, stressing that they are fully prepared to respond “decisively” to any act of aggression by the Israeli regime and its allies.
For his part, Sikorski welcomed the cessation of Israeli aggression and hoped that it would help reduce tensions in the region.
Also on Thursday, Araghchi discussed the latest regional developments after the Israeli-American aggression in a separate phone conversation with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow.
Iran’s top diplomat emphasized that the international community should hold the Israeli regime and the US accountable for their blatant violation of the country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
Meredow also welcomed the establishment of the ceasefire and expressed his hope for eased regional tensions.
He also expressed his country’s readiness to expand bilateral ties with Tehran.
