The General Authority of Zakat’s branch in Taiz organized a graduation ceremony on Tuesday for 374 beneficiaries of the Economic Empowerment Project, under the slogan “Building and Empowerment.” The project included the distribution of professional and production toolkits at a total cost of 344 million Yemeni riyals, funded by the local Zakat branch, and targeted beneficiaries from Taiz and Lahj.
Held at Al-Rasoul Al-Azam Square, the ceremony was attended by Shura Council members, local officials, and representatives of the Zakat Authority. Sheikh Shamsan Abu Nashtan, Chairman of the General Authority of Zakat, congratulated the graduates, emphasizing that the project embodies the pillar of zakat and reflects the vision of the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and President Mahdi al-Mashat.
He noted that the project focuses on professional empowerment, productive families, and small-scale projects, enabling beneficiaries to integrate into the labor market following vocational training. He also stressed zakat's role in combating unemployment and achieving self-sufficiency, affirming that former regimes had marginalized its purpose.
Taiz Mobilization Official Mohammad al-Khalidi praised the initiative and called on merchants to fulfill their zakat obligations, citing its visible impact. Zakat Authority officials Mohammed Al-Ayani and Ali Al-Zurafi also attended.
Director of the Zakat branch in Taiz, Shawqi Mughlis, highlighted the success of the project in transforming lives from dependency to productivity, describing the Zakat Authority as a key achievement of the September 21st Revolution.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, engineer Razaz al-Sumaydi affirmed their readiness to enter the labor market after months of training that combined theoretical and practical elements. The event concluded with a poem by Ahmed Abbad, followed by the honoring of Sheikh Abu Nashtan and Mohammad al-Khalidi by Dr. Ahmed al-Amiri, Head of Taiz University – Al-Huban Branch.
