The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has cautioned the United States against executing a new assault on Iran, asserting that Washington would attain “nothing but defeat” from any such action.
IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi indicated on Tuesday that Washington has already suffered failure in prior rounds of aggression.
“In this specific instance, if the US intends to target any place in Iran, not limited to Mount Kolang and not solely the site it has threatened, we will confront the American strike with complete readiness.”
Mount Kolang is a fortified facility in the central province of Isfahan, where the US alleges Iran maintains its highly enriched uranium stockpile.
General Mohebbi, however, dismissed US threats to target the nuclear facilities, remarking that US President Donald Trump habitually issues empty threats.
“Trump forgets that he has previously issued threats without being able to execute them, and now he is once again issuing new threats,” said the IRGC spokesperson.
Mohebbi noted that US government officials should reconsider before issuing threats against Iran, adding that they will regret launching any new strike against the country because Iran's response will be firm.
The statements were a clear reference to the US failure to secure any results from a 40-day joint aggression with the Israeli regime against Iran, which initiated in late February and concluded temporarily in a ceasefire in mid-April.
The aggression saw Iran responding extensively to US strikes on its military and civilian infrastructure, with US military assets in West Asia being targeted repeatedly over recent months.
Trump and other officials in the US administration have implied in their recent statements that Washington might launch attacks on Mount Kolang in an alleged attempt to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
Iran has repeatedly rejected claims it is seeking nuclear weapons while maintaining that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.
